The largest animal known to have lived. The animals passing Timor-Leste are pygmy blue whales, migrating roughly 5,000km between the Banda Sea and southern Australia. They are watched from boats at the surface — this is not an animal you dive with, and in-water approaches are contested on welfare grounds.

Southbound migration through the Ombai–Wetar Strait runs roughly September to December, with mid-October to November the window research and reporting point at.
