Napantao North Wall

The signature wall of Sogod Bay, on the Panaon Island side. Current is normal here and can run hard along the corner. The wall itself came through Typhoon Odette intact; the reef crest above roughly 12m was stripped and is still recovering.

Unique features

  • Horseshoe wall dropping from about 7m past 60m, inside a barangay marine sanctuary monitored on fixed transects since 2008
  • Gorgonian fans, black coral and tubastrea on the wall face, with anthias and fusilier clouds in the shallows
  • Upwellings bring colder water and pull in giant trevally and other pelagics
